20 A woman suffering haemorrhages for twelve years came up behind him and touched the tassel on his cloak.Matthew 9:20-22
21 She said to herself, “If only I can touch his cloak, I shall be cured.”
22 Jesus turned around and saw her, and said, “Courage, daughter! Your faith has saved you.” And from that hour the woman was cured.
Today’s Bible Quote of the Day Reflections
Jesus, today, teaches us about having utmost faith in Him. During His encounter with this woman who was suffering haemorrhages for twelve years, we come to understand vividly that faith in Jesus brings healing.
Let us analyse this scenario; Jesus is walking-by and suddenly He feels someone touch His cloak in a special way. The reason I am saying in a special way is because there were other people walking around Him and must in one way or another touched Him in a normal way, but Jesus didn’t give much regard to them.
I would take this touch by the woman in a symbolic way. This woman chose to touch the cloak of Jesus in order to get healing. Therefore, when we reach out to Jesus with faith in whichever way especially through prayer, He will definitely hear us and come to our aid. This is in contrast to those who mention or call on the name of Jesus in vain, Jesus doesn’t give much regard to them.
Jesus listens to the prayers from our hearts, this is why He knew exactly what the woman wanted without even inquiring from her or being told by anybody else. He knew that the woman touched Him because she needed healing. Jesus knew that it was faith that drove the woman to reach out to him and that is why He said that her faith had saved and healed her.
Let us today learn from this woman that if we always have faith in Jesus and we reach out to Him, He will always hear and understand the wishes and prayers of our hearts, and He will save us from any of our distress. We should never be afraid of reaching out to our saviour for help because He is always there for us.
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, we pray that You increase our faith in You because you are our healer, protector and our refuge all the times. Teach us to always trust in You. Amen
