Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Alcuin was born in York in 735 by a noble Anglo-Saxon family and was educated at the Episcopal school of York and was a spiritual student of Saint Colgan.
He entered the Benedictine Order; when Bishop Egberto died, he was succeeded by Archbishop of York Aelberto, who after ordained Alcuin as a deacon.
Minister of Education under Blessed Charlemagne in 781. Alcuin established schools at cathedrals and monasteries for both met the need of both pagan and Christian.
