Blessed Bernhard Lichtenberg was a German Catholic priest renowned for speaking out against the persecution and deportation of the Jews by the Nazis.
He was born in Olawa, Poland.
He was tortured and died as a martyr on November 5 1943 at the age of 67 while being transported from Berlin to Dachau concentration camp, Germany.
We celebrate his feast day on November 5 every year in the Catholic Church.

Blessed Bernhard Lichtenberg Life History
Blessed Bernhard Lichtenberg was a priest in the diocese of Berlin, Germany. He was serving in the Berlin Cathedral and was well known in Civic circles.
He organized a protest outside the concentration camps and led prayers for the Jews after the terrors of Kristallnacht.
For doing that, he was imprisoned for two years and when he was released, he resumed his mission both pastoral and social.
He was arrested again and sentenced to death but died a martyr en route to the Dachau concentration camp.
