Bl Burchard of Beinwil Biography

Blessed Burchard of Beinwil studied at the Benedictine monastery near his home. He had a connection to the Kappel Monastery, as mentioned in their records. Burchard later became a priest in Beinwil in Switzerland. But above all he was known for his decades of concern for the physical and spiritual well-being of his parishioners.

According to legend, Burchard raised a wild bird and taught it not only to speak but to hold conversations with him. During a trip, his household fell into evil and dissolute ways, the bird reported the events it had witnessed.

The servants killed the bird and threw the carcass into a mine shaft near the rectory. The dead bird returned to him and explained what had happened and who had done it. He died in 1192 AD in Beinwil, Switzerland of natural causes and was buried in his parish church Graveyard.
