Blessed Cristóbal López de Valladolid Orea Biography
Blessed Cristóbal López de Valladolid Orea, One of six brothers of a poor family. He was known as a devout child and ran at 7 or 8 years away from home to join the Friars Minor. His mother sent his brothers to him and brought him back. He served as a ministrant as often as he could and, if he had done so, in a hospital run by the Order of Saint John of God. Consecrated on March 20, 1663 in Badajoz, Spain.
Military chaplain of the Spanish army, who fought in Portugal but was ill, forced him to return home. In 1667 he was in the mountains of El Bañuelo and after studying the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi he joined in 1671 the Third Order of St. Francis, under the name of Cristóbal of St. Catherine. Founded on February 11, 1673 in Cordoba, Spain, the Franciscan Hospitalists of Jesus the Nazarene, to take care of the physical and mental needs of the sick; They received their approval from Pope Benedict XIV in 1746. Father Cristóbal died with a crucifix, a victim of cholera, who was attacked by other patients during an epidemic.
