Blessed’s Biography

Blessed Emilia Bicchieri was born to a wealthy family of Ghibelline patrician. Bl. Emilia Bicchieri was well educated, and at an early, she was drawn to religious life. Emilia’s mother died when she was still a girl, and her father became even more protective and initially objected to Emilia becoming a nun.

Her father realized her true calling and funded the construction of the Dominican monastery of Santa Margherita in Vercelli, Italy. At 18, she entered the abbey as a Dominican nun. Emilia was repeatedly chosen to serve as prioress of the house, but she refused and concentrated on menial domestic service to her sisters. In 1273 Emilia became prioress and always promoted, devotion to the Eurcharist, the Passion, and Blessed Virgin Mary.

Death

She died on May 3, 1314, in Vercelli, Piedmont, Italy and interred at the Santa Margherita abbey in Vercelli. Her relics enshrined in the cathedral of Vercelli
