Blessed Eurosia Fabris’ Life History

Eurosia Fabris, commonly known as Rosina, was born on September 27 1866, in Quinto Vicentino, near Vicenza town in Italy, to humble farmers, Luigi and Maria Fabris. Her family relocated to Marola when she was four and they lived there for the rest of their lives.

She was only schooled for two years of kindergarten where she managed to learn how to read and write enough to understand the scriptures, catechism and the Roman Catholic History books. She used to help her parents out with the chores even at an early age and so could not go back to school.

She received first holy communion when she was 12. She later joined the Association of of the Daughters of Mary where she heeded to their practices and developed great love for Mary, with her devotions being to the Holy Spirit, The Cross of Christ, The Infant Jesus, The Eucharist and the Souls in Purgatory. She was famous in her area for being recognized as a force of good will as she taught catechism to children and sewing to young girls who came to her home.

When she turned 18, she begun receiving marriage proposals but she declined them all as she felt she was not called to serve God in marriage. An unfortunate event happened though; a married woman
living near her home passed away and left three children behind, one of them who died shortly after her mother did. Their father Carlo Barban was unavailable taking care of sick relatives and so Rosina took it upon herself to visit the home of the remaining children, Charia Angela and Italia, 20 months and 2 months old respectively, to clean their home and take care of them.

After this acts of charity, she meditated upon the events through prayer and decided to marry Carlo Barban, following the advice from her parish priest and relatives. She did this because she felt attached to the children and to make it easier for her to take care of them fully as a foster parent. She got married on May 5 1886.

Rosina, adopted the two girls and had nine more of her own. Her home was lit with the grace of God as she dedicated her life to teaching her children a prayerful life, obedience and respect towards the will of God. Three of her sons grew up to become catholic priests including one who had joined the order of the Friars.

Fabris was very intense in prayer and she lived according to the examples of the strong women in the Bible. She looked after the sick and the orphans who came up as a result of World War I. She managed to be consistent in charity even when she faced budgetary constraints in her family.

She joined the Third Order founded by St, Francis of Assisi to become a secular Franciscan. She lived a life in poverty and joy and fulfillment in God and passed away on January 8 1932. She was laid to rest in the church of Marola.
