Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Richard of Floreffe was born in the late 11th century in France. He joined one of the first to the premonstratens canons at the Prémontré monastery at Laon, Aisne, Picardy, France in 1120. In 1222 Richard was sent to Belgium with some cannons from Prémontré and became the monastery’s first prior. Richard was a man of God, thrilled by the apostolic life. He considered his monastery’s only property the gifts that came to the poor and needy for good.
After eight years as an abbot, Richard died highly honored in 1129. His image is found on the sacred grounds of Frigolet and Zwierzyniec.
