Blessed Stephana de Quinzanis Life History
Blessed Stephana de Quinzanis was born on February 5, 1457, at Soncino, Italy. She came from a peasant middle-class peasant family, and she helped in the field work. When she was still small, her father became Dominican Tertiary, and she visited with him the Dominican monastery.
There Stephana met the blessed Matthew Carreri, who was pardoned with the stigma of Christ. His influence would last through Stefana long life. He taught her catechism and much of her own spirit of holiness.
In fact, he told her that one day she would become his spiritual heir. She did not understand this until many years later.
Already at a young age, Stephana started a sacred life with fasting and penitentiary exercises. The visions that would enrich her mysterious life began when she was seven, and she also made private promises of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
Stefana had visions of our Lord and several of the Dominican saints, and she received a glorious ring as a sign of her mysterious marriage to Christ. From then on, her heart and mind were focused on God, and no attraction had enough power to distract her.
When Stefana was 14, Matthew Carreri died. She then had severe pain and understood that she had received stigmata. This was the legacy that Matthew had promised her.
At age 15, she joined the medical clinics in the nearby town of Crema. Stefana lived at home for many years and worked among the sick and the poor.
