Blessed Vitaliy Bayrak, also called Vitalii Bairak, Vitalij Bajrak or Volodomyr Bairak, was a Prior of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. He was born on February 24 1907 at Shvaikivtsy, Ternopil’s’ka oblast’, Ukraine and died as a martyr on April 21 1946 in prison at Drohobych, L’vivs’ka oblast’, Ukraine. We celebrate his feast day on May 16 every year in the Catholic Church.

Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Vitaliy Bayrak was born on February 24, 1907, in Ukraine. He joined the Basilica of St. Josaphat on September 4, 1924.
Later Vitaliy became a priest on August 13, 1933. In 1941 he became prior of Drohobych. Vitaliy was arrested on 17 September 1945 by the NKVD because of his beliefs.
They were not satisfied and Confiscated his Property on November 13, 1945. He was sentenced to eight years of forced labor. On April 21, 1946, he was beaten to death in the Drohobych prison in Ukraine
