Blessed Arnold of Padua Biography

Blessed Arnold of Padua was born in 1185. He was born to the nobility. Arnold was a Benedictine monk at the Santa Giustina monastery in Padua, Italy. He was chosen the head of the other monks in 1209 at the age of 24.

He then restored and expanded the abbey structure. Arnold fought to maintain its rights. Arnold escaped to Monselice when Ezzelino III conquered Padua in 1237.

He came back in 1238, but when Ezzelino returned to the city, he then arrested Arnold in 1246 and imprisoned him to live his remaining eight years on bread and water.
