Blessed Berthold of Garsten Biography
Blessed Berthold of Garsten, being born to the nobility. Benedictine monk in the Abbey of St. Blaise in the Black Forest in Germany. Priest. Prior to the Göttweig Abbey in 1107. Developed and served as the first abbot of the Garsden Abbey in 1111. Introduction of the Hirsauer reforms in Austria. Known for its strict observance of the Benedictine rule, charity for the poor and endless work as a spiritual leader for visitors and lay people.
