Biography
Bl. Claudio di Portaceli was a Mercedarian friar who was the commander of the house of Carcassonne in France. However, in 1318, he went on the streets collecting alms to help Christians held in Slavery in the Muslim Controlled areas. His staff had a flag bearing the image of Our Lady of Mercy and a slave kneeling at her feet having the wording “Haec est Coeli door” meaning this is heaven door.
He later travelled to North Africa to rescue those Christians in1330 AD. Claudio was a miracle worker and also became the Cardinal of Santa Pudenziana.
