Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Engelbert Beets was born 1539 AD in Hoeleden, Brabant, Flanders (in modern Belgium). In 1561, he joined Premonstratensians in the Averbode monastery near Diest, Brabant, Belgium. Engelbert became a parish priest and chosen Vicar of Rumen, Belgium in 1570. Because the religious wars and turmoil Engelbert could not live in his parish but found the head of the city of Sint-Truiden (Limburg in Flanders).
Engelbert was captured and killed in 1579 in Belgium, in his 41st year of life. He is honored as blessed by the premonstratens with a memorial day on January 7.
