Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Gerald of Salles was a monk at the Saint-Avit Abbey in Hermit in the Cadonh Forest. Gerald inspired many students. In 1113 AD he founded Benedictine houses of Andorel Abbey, Belleperche Abbey, Valmagne Abbey, Bournet Abbey. The following year, Gerald founded Dalon Abbey and Grandselve Abbey. In 1115 AD and 1117 AD he established Cadouin Abbey and Fontdouce Abbey. Gerald also built two other houses in 1119 and 1120 (Châtelliers Abbey and Absie Abbey). Gerald continued to inspire many as he founded the Order of Cadonh and the Order of Dalon, both of which later merged into the Cistercians.
Death
He died in 1120 of natural causes and re-interred in a marble tomb on the south-side of the altar at Châtelliers Abbey.
