Bl. Maria del Carmen of the Child Jesus Biography

Bl. Maria del Carmen of the Child Jesus was born to a religious family. In 1857, she married Joaquin Munoz del Cano, a violent and unfaithful man where she responded by praying for him to change until he turned his life around.

She was widowed in 1881 and in 1882, she turned her home into a combination school and clinic caring and educating children who were poor to afford other resources. On 8 May 1884, she and other like-minded ladies started living in a common convent of Our Lady of Victory of Antequera, Spain.

The lay the foundation of the Hermanas Franciscanas de Los Sagrados Corazones which she helped found and they received approval of Bishop Miguel Salazar Gomez on 10 July 1884 Maria taking the name Carmen of the Child Jesus.
