Blessed’s Biography
Blessed María Francisca Espejo y Martos was born on February 2, 1873, in Spain. She Studied in Monasterio Trinitario de Martos, where her maternal aunt, Rosario Martos Cuesta, was a nun of Trinitarian nun. On July 2, 1893, she received the religious order and began her profession on July 5, 1894, and was named Sr. María Francisca de la Encarnación.
María was a dedicated nun who performed common work with simplicity and obedience. She loved the prayer and spent many hours in front of the sacristy. Mary was a follower of the Virgin Mary and San José.
On July 21, 1936, the nuns were expelled from Trinitario Monastery and found refuge at home of her brother, Ramón. María was imprisoned during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and executed on January 13, 1937, in Casilla de Martos, in Spain. Her body was exhumed in July 1939 and incorrupt enshrined at the monastery of the Holy Trinity in Casilla de Martos.

María was Venerated by Pope John Paul II on June 26, 2006.
