Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Mariano de la Mata Aparicio was born on December 31, 1905, in Spain. He had eight siblings born to Manuel and Martina. Mariano was raised in a profoundly Christian family.
In 1921, he entered the Order of Saint Augustine after finishing his humanistic studies in Preceptoría de Barriosuso. In 1930, ordained as a priest after finishing his education. Mariano was sent to work as a missionary in Brazil in 1931. Two years later he was transferred to St Augustine College, where he taught natural sciences until 1949.
In 1945 to 1948 he was the director of the college and held the post of vice provincial superior. He took time to attend to young and old people especially the sick.
Charity work
1 Young man suffering from hepatitis, visited every day during his 60-day hospital stay by priest.
2 visited one of his student for an entire year on a regular basis, giving him private lessons during his illness.
He remained in Brazil for 50 years till his death in 1983.
