Biography

Blessed Marie-Anne-Françoise Brideau, Sub-prioress. One of the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne, murdered in the counter Christian oppressions of the French Revolution. Guillotined on July 17, 1794, at the Place du Trône Renversé (current Place de la Nation) in Paris, France. Before their execution they stooped and recited the “Veni Creator”, as at a calling, after which they all restored resoundingly their baptismal and religious promises. Among eleven Discalced Carmelite nuns, three lay sisters and two laywomen workers who were martyred together in the French Revolution. They were the most punctual saints of the French Revolution that have been perceived.
