Biography

Blessed Marie-Anne Piedcourt, Discalced Carmelite nun, pronounced in 1737. She sang in the convent choir. One of the Carmelite Martyrs of Compiegne, murdered in the counter Christian abuses of the French Revolution. Guillotined on July 17, 1794, at the Place du Trône Renversé (current Place de la Nation) in Paris, France. Before their execution they bowed and recited the “Veni Creator”, as at a calling, after which they all restored out loud their baptismal and religious pledges. Among eleven Discalced Carmelite nuns, three lay sisters and two laywomen hirelings who were martyred together in the French Revolution. They were the most punctual saints of the French Revolution that have been perceived.
