Blessed Marie-Thérèse Haze was born as Jeanne Haze on February 27, 1782, in Liège, Belgium. She was the second youngest of seven children by Louis Haze and Marguerite Tombeure. Her father worked in the secretariat of the Liège First Bishop. In 1794 her father retired and moved to the German Empire where he died.
In her childhood, Marie-Thérèse developed and cultivated a strong devotion to the Passion of Christ. At age four, she could read and write. She had a strong devotion to religion from an early age but was 50 years old when she finally found her vocation.
In 1833 Marie-Thérèse and her sisters founded the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross of Liège. She died on January 7, 1876, in Liège, Belgium of natural causes.
