Blessed’s Biography

Blessed Martin was born in 1130 in León, Old Castile, Spain. He was still a child when his mother Eugenia died; his father Giovanni then entered the Leonese monastery of San Marcello and took him with him. His father, a subdeacon, also died and Martin spent years on long pilgrimages.

After his return to Leon Martin was ordained a priest in the monastery of St. Marcellus. Martin retired to St. Isidore in the same city where he also owned the Canons Regular and died on January 12, 1203 for natural causes. His relics are kept in 1513 in the chapel of San Martin in the collegiate church of León
