Blessed Peter of Castelnau was born near Montpellier in France. He became the reign of Maguelonne in 1199 and about 1202 Cistercian monks in the Monastery of Fontfroide. On May 1204, Pope Innocent III assigned Peter to work with the heretic Albigensians to bring them back to the church. He launched a great evangelization campaign in southern France; Saint Dominic of Guzman took part in it. On January 15, 1208, Peter was killed by Albiganian Count Raimund of Toulouse on the count’s order.
