Blessed’s Biography
Blessed Richard Bere was a nephew to Richard Bere, abbot of Glastonbury. He was studied at the Glastonbury Abbey school and then Oxford. Bl. James Walworth refused an arranged marriage and study law at the Chancery in London. In 1523 he abandoned the law and became a Carthusian choir monk at the London Charterhouse. Bl. James Walworth was imprisoned and murdered with several of his brothers for refusing to take the Oath of Supremacy acknowledging King Henry VIII as head of the Church.
Death
He was starved to death on August 9, 1537, in Newgate prison, London, England.
