Biography

Blessed Thomas Alfield, Instructed at Eton and King’s College, Cambridge, acquiring his degree in 1568. Raised Protestant, he changed over as a grown-up to Catholicism. Entered the theological college at Douai and Rheims, France in 1576. Appointed in 1581. Come back to England to clergyman to clandestine Catholics during a time of mistreatment, working in the north.

Captured, tormented and sent to the Tower of London on 2 May 1582, he repudiated his change to Catholicism, communicated a craving to come back to the Protestant church, and was discharged. Filled with blame over his inability to keep the confidence, he came back to Rheims, came back to the Church, and afterward came back to England. Captured once more, he was sent back to the Tower, at that point to Newgate jail, at that point denounced for injustice, and executed for the violations of ministry and conveying the booklet True and Modest Defense, a guard of the confidence. Saint.
