St. Aaron Biography
Saint Aaron was a prophet, high priest and brother to Moses. Unlike Moses who grew up in the Egyptian royal court, Aaron and his elder sister called Miriam remained with their kinsmen. When Moses confronted the Pharaoh he was his spokesman. He was the great-grandson of Levi and the son of Jacob. He was among the leaders of the Israelites in the desert, where he caused the casting of the golden calf which the Israelites worshiped in the desert.
Aaron was challenged for the exclusive claim to the priesthood by a Levite named Korah. After the rebels were swallowed up by the earth as punishment, Moses took a rod from each leader of the Israelites. He put them outside the meeting tent overnight. In the morning Aarons rod was found to have budded and blossomed and had also produced ripe almonds. Even though he was chosen by God he still did not get to enter the promised land just like Moses.
