St. Abercius Marcellus Biography

St. Abercius Marcellus was also known as Abercius of Geropoli/Hieropolis,he was a resident of Phrygia Salutaris and was an active missionary there. At the age of 72 he was summoned by a Rome Emperor(Emperor Marcus Aurelius) to exorcise a demon from his daughter(Lucilla) where he succeeded and returned to his home where he composed his own epitaph.

Later on a Greek hagiographer utilised the exorcism as a starting point to write a biography Abercius, due to lack of enough materials the writer included incidents from the lives of other saints,he also added plain fiction when he ran out of information. Some have considered Abercius to be fictional, and much grant has been required to demonstrate his reality and concentrate the couple of certainties about him that we know.
