St Almedha Biography
She was also known as:
St Almedha was born in the 6th century AD in Welsh. She was a princess and the daughter of King Brychan. She was also a pious girl, she made a private vow of chastity and dedicated her life to Jesus. When her family tried to force her into an arranged marriage for political reasons, she fled her father‘s kingdom. Afraid of Brychan’s revenge if they helped her, villages turned her away.
She acquired a small hut and lived there briefly as a prayerful hermitess, at Brecon. However, when Brychan found her, he demanded that she return home to be married. Standing by her vows, she refused and because of this, he killed her.
