St Canice, also known as Cainnech of Aghaboe, Caimnech, Cainnic, Canicus, Chainnigh, Kenneth, or Kenny, was monk and an abbot born in 525 AD in Glengiven, County Derry, Northern Ireland.
He died in 599 AD at Aghaboe, Laois, Ireland. We celebrate his feast day on October 11 every year in the Catholic Church.

St Canice History
St Canice father was a distinguished royal bard, and his mother‘s name was Maul. Canice was a spiritual student of Saint Finnian of Clonard in 543 AD with Saint Columba.
Canice was also a spiritual student of Saint Ciaran of Clonmacnoise, Saint Comgall of Bangor, and Saint Mobhi in 544 AD. He was ordained in 545 AD at Llancarfan, Glamorganshire.
Canice became a Monk in Glasnevin in 550 AD and later founded the monastery of Agahanoe and served as its abbot.
He may have founded the monastery of Kilkenny, Ireland, a city named after him. Canice went as a missionary to Scotland with Saint Columba in 565 AD and he was known as a very effective preacher.
He built a church in the place now known as Saint Andrews. He copied out all four Gospels and wrote a commentary on them.
