Saint Carteriusa also known as Karterios Karterios lived at the time of Emperor Diocletian, was a priest and founded a small school for Christians. When he in the persecution of Christians was indicted, he was hiding, according to tradition, first, then stood on God’s command for the prosecution, was whipped, hung his fingernails and toenails were torn out, his body was pierced with nails, you put it on a glowing chair and threw him in jail. There Christ appeared to him in the night , healed and freed him.
Many people who saw him healthy and free were baptized and healed themselves. Therefore, he was caught again, burned with candles, doused with sulfur and tar, soaked in boiling water, finally put into the fire, but he remained unhurt and sang hymns in praise of God. A Jew saw this and pierced him with his spear, but water poured out of the wounds and extinguished the fire. Finally, Karterios bleed to death and won the martyr’s crown.
