Saint Cyril Biography
Saint Cyril was a brother to Saint Methodius and was born to the Greece nobility. His family was connected to the Senate of Thessalonica. He studied at the University of Constantinople and taught Philosophy. Later, he became the Deacon and then a priest.
Cyril also had the position of a librarian at the Church of Santa Sophia. He became a monk and had the name, Cyril. He was sent to convert the Jewish Khazars of Russia together with Methodius. this gave him an opportunity to learn the Khazar’s language. In 863, they were sent again Moravians in their homeland. He developed an alphabet for the Slavonic language that evolved to be what we have currently as Cyrillic. He died before his consecration to be a Bishop.
