Biography
Saint Edgar the Peaceful, Brought into the world a sovereign, the child of King Edmund I and St. Elgiva of Shaftesbury. Ruler of the Mercians and Northumbrians in 957. Lord of the West Saxons on October 1, 959, which viably made him ruler of all England. Effective and curiously tolerant of nearby traditions; while he invested much energy in military activities, his rule was a quiet period for regular folks. helped his companion Saint Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury, Archbishop Oswald of York, and Bishop Aethelwold of Winchester in establishing convents, empowered the Benedictine development, and authorized punishments for not paying tithes and Peter’s pence. Father of St. Edward the Martyr. Also, patron st. of Kings and widowers.
