Saint’s Biography

Saint Emebert of Cambrai was born in the 600s as the son of Count Witgar of Brabant and the Saint Amalburga of Maubeuge. Emebert’s sisters were the Saint Gudule and Saint Reineldis. Entered as a monk in the Benedictine monastery at Saint-Pierre in Lobbes with his father. While Amalburga went with her daughter Gudula to the Benedictine monastery Maubeuge in Belgium. Reineldis followed her father to Lobbes hoping she would somehow join him there and give most of her wealth and property to the monastery. But when this was impossible she visited the Holy Land.

Emebert became Bishop of Cambrai, France. He died 710 AD of natural causes and was buried at the church of Our Lady. Later, his relics were transferred to the Benedictine monastery Maubeuge on the French side of the border with Belgium. His relics were lost in the 17th century.
