Saint Godelieve Biography
Saint Godelieve, born the Flemish nobility, the daughter of Hemfried, Lord of Wierre-Effray. Married to Bertulf of Ghistelles, a Flemish nobleman who left her before the wedding was over. Mother-in-law, Godelieve, who was locked up in a cell in various ways, starved to death, and subjected to various physical and mental abuse. Her father threatened to hand over the husband and in-laws to state and church authorities. Bertulf seemed to regret, Godelieve returned to him and was soon murdered. She is generally considered a martyr. Always a friend of the poor and sick autopsy miracle.
