St. Gregory of Burtscheid was a Benedictine Monk at Cerchiara, Calabria, Italy. She escaped to Rome, Italy fleeing from escaping Saracens. He befriended Emperor Otto III who invited him to Germany and established a Benedictine abbey at Burtscheld near Aachen.
