Biography
Saint Gunthiern was a Prince who went on to become a hermit in Brittany. He was given land by Grallon, a local lord. The land was to start a monastery. It was situated on the Isle of Groie close to river Blavet. It still survives to this day as the Benedictine house of Kemperle.
There is a legend that insects once threatened to destroy the region’s crops. Count Guerech the first of Vannes, France, asked for the saint‘s help. St. Gunthiern blessed some water and made them sprinkle it over the fields. The insects left, and the crops were safe.
