Saint Lawrence of Canterbury Biography

Lawrence of Canterbury was a monk.

He accompanied St Augustine of Canterbury to evangelize in England under an order served by Pope Saint Gregory the Great in 597. Upon his colleague’s death, He became the archbishop of Canterbury. There came a time when Britons started abandoning Christianity. He had plans to leave them and return to France his home ground. However, he had a vision in which he was rebuked by St Peter the Apostle for giving up on his Christians. He remained and re-energized for his task in the region.

He converted King Edbald who in turn brought many of his subjects to Christianity. It is said that he had physical scars from his dream beating by Saint Peter.
