Saint’s Biography
Saint Leonidas of Alexandria was beheaded in 202 at Alexandria, Egypt leaving seven children orphans. The eldest of whom, in fact, Origen, was just seventeen whom he raised and taught.
History describes the care with which Leonidas educated his son in the study of the Sacred Scriptures before that of the letters. He thanked God for having had a child so early enthusiastic about the way of God, how he recognized the hand of God in the child, and at night, when he slept, he stopped to kiss his chest as if it were a shrine of the Holy Spirit.
He had preserved a fragment of the letter that his seventeen-year-old son sent to him in prison to urge him never give up.
