Saint’s Biography
Saint Macrina the Elder was born in 260. She was the grandmother of St. Basil the Great, Gregory of Nyssa, Peter of Sebaste and St. Macrina the Younger. Macrina was the spiritual student of Saint Gregory Thaumaturgus. She and her husband lived for seven years in a forest in Pontus during the persecutions by Diocletian and starved almost several times. Widowed.
