Saint María del Carmen Sallés Barangueras Biography
Saint María del Carmen Sallés Barangueras, the second of ten children of José Sallés y Vall and Francisca Barangueras y de Planell, who were religious people. At 16, she was married. She began her novitiate at the Adoration Sisters on May 7, 1869 in Barcelona, Spain; She started to work with the poor and the outcasts. After proving her skills as a teacher on May 8, 1871, she joined the Dominicans in the Annunciation, a teaching order. She made her last vow in August 1872. On May 22, 1892, she founded the Conceptionist Missionary Sisters of Education and spent the rest of her life working on her work and expansion. They continue their good work today with over 500 sisters in over 60 homes.
