Biography
Saint Maruta was a Bishop of Mayferkqat in Syria and was part of the Kingdom of Persia in the late 4th Century. He presided over the Council of Seleucia. He worked to build and repair churches that had been lost during the persecutions of King Sapor.
Maruta composed a number of hymns honoring the martyrs and wrote as many as he could research.
He once went to the court to seek an end to the Christian persecutions during the reign of King Yezdigerd. While there, he healed the King of violent headaches he had been having. The King did not convert but agreed to tolerate Christians.
