St. Maximian of Ravenna Biography
St. Maximian of Ravenna was made a Bishop of Ravenna in Italy in 546 AD by Pope Vigilius having the support of Emperor Justinian. However, the choice was so unfamiliar that the Maximian had to live outside the city walls for a while.
He built the Basilica of St. Vitalis and renovated other churches. It is probable that he is the first Latin Bishop to have the title archbishop.
