St. Marcus Ji Tianxiang Short life History
Saint Marcus Ji Tianxiang, is also known as Magu, Marco, Mark. He was a married layman in the apostolic vicariate of Southeastern Zhili, China.
He was born in 1834 in Yazhuangtou, Jizhou, Hebei, China
Having an opium addiction led to him being forbidden to take Communion, and though he could not break his dependency for 30 years, he never lost his faith, never wanted to leave the Church, and when he was finally clean, he returned to full communion. Nevertheless he remained a believing Catholic.
He was murdered by beheading in 1900, along with dozens of other Catholics in his village, in the vicious persecution of Christians during the Boxer Rebellion.
At his trial given a chance to renounce his faith, but he refused. It is said that he sang the litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary as he was led to his execution.
