Biography
Saint Philomena of San Severino, 1527, the bishop of Porto, Italy, Cardinal Antonio de Monte, requested the altar in the Church of St. Lawrence in San Severino to be redesigned. This required the altar to be destroyed. Upon dismantling, a tomb was found with the uncorrupted collection of St. Philomena inside, where it had laid for a thousand years.
St. Philomena was said to be dressed in an excellent sapphire-hued dress and the ground-breaking aroma of roses, regularly connected with the saints, was experienced by every one of those present.
Connected to the body by a slight line around her neck, was a material, apparently recorded by the then-diocesan of Severino himself.
The material read: “The collection of St. Philomena, of the respectable Clavello genealogy of San Severino, in the season of the Goths, moved into the Church of Saint Lawrence under the special altar.”
The minister had marked the material and dated it, with the date meaning the 6th century.
The Bishop de Monte requested St. Philomena to be reinterred with respect.
A few miracles have been ascribed to this baffling saint. A virgin at the time of her death.
