St. Raymond of Fitero Biography
Saint Raymond of Fitero was a Priest and Canon of the cathedral of Tarazona, Spain. He was also a Cistercian monk at the Escaladieu Abbey in Gascony, France who later founded the abbey of Fitero in Spanish Navarre and served as its first abbot. He is also the founder of the Benedictine and Cistercian military Order of Calatrava with the aim of defending Calatrava la Vieja, Spain from invading Moors after the city was abandoned by the Knights Templar.
