Biography
Saint Tarasius of Constantinople was born to the Byzantine nobility and became the consul and secretary of State to Emperor Constantine IV. He later led to the life of a monk.
Tarasius was unexpectedly chosen the Patriarch of Constantinople but he rejected when his position was cut off from full commuion with Rome under the leadership of his predecessor.
He formed a Council on 1 August 786 to settle the issues on the use of holy images but it was rioted and the council was reformed in 7987 AD in Nicea and the council determined that the Church had the urge to use holy images and the pope approved.
Tarasius lived a self-denying life while reading and praying for the Church. However, when the emperor took his wife aside and got a priest to be his servant, Tarasius condemned it and ended up jailed because of the defiance.
