St Turibius of Mogroveio was born in 1538 at Mayorga de Campos, Leon, Spain. He was born to the nobility. He was a Lawyer and a Professor of law at Salamanca, Spain. Turibius was ordained a Priest in 1578 AD at the age of 40. He then was Judge of the Court of the Inquisition at Granada, Spain. He was also the Archbishop of Lima, Peru on 15 May 1579. St Turibius established the first seminary in the Western hemisphere and fought for the rights of the natives against the Spanish masters. He organized councils and synods in the New World.
