Biography
Saint Valentine of Rome was a priest in Rome who was almost a bishop. He was a physician and was imprisoned for giving help to martyrs. While in prison, he made Jailer convert after he restored his daughter’s sight.
There are various theories around the origin of valentines day celebrations.
Some have the belief that it started from Romans mid-February custom where boys drew the names of girls in respect of sex and fertility goddess, Februata Juno. Pastors renamed this holiday replacing it with names of saints such as Valentine to suppress the practice.
Others have it that it originated from the belief that birds begin to pair on 14 February. However, by 1477 AD the English related lovers with the feast of Valentines because on that day birds choose their mates.
