Why We Reject Kazi Mtaani (Kwa Vijana) Programme for Kenyan Youths as Proposed by President Ruto
Why We Reject the Kazi Mtaani (Kazi Kwa Vijana) Programme for Kenyan Youths as Proposed by President Ruto as a long-term project What is kazi kwa vijana according to • Government • Ruto before • Ruto now • What the people want Why kazi kwa vijana as it is now is not good • Only one kind of job – Kufyeka na kufagia tu – • The jobs are not sustainable in the long run because o Money from the government will be stolen before it reaches the people o What about other people who have different professions other than landscaping? o It does not add skills to the youth, it just keeps them busy as they get older What do the people propose? • The government through the Ministry of ICT or any other relevant ministry (and if the people don’t trust the government and politicians with such a program, an entity like Safaricom can spearhead it. After all Safaricom has the technology and expertise to do that) to establish a public portal where every Kenyan citizen above 18 years can voluntarily register their area of trade, profession, talent or passion. o The government has a database of all legal, moral and acceptable trades, careers and professions that can be practised in Kenya. o Use technology to come up with an app or program that when one wants to register they will be prompted to write their name, ID number and Phone number. Then from the dropdown list, they choose their area of trade, then choose their wards, sub-counties, and counties. o The main aim of this app or program is to bring together people with similar trades, careers, passions, and talents together so that they can start a conversation together about how they would like to chat their way forward.
