Saint’s Biography
Saint André-Hubert Fournet had a strong religious education and was nagged by his mother to become a priest. Andrew resisted and tried to study in Poitiers, but began to lead a wild life. After school, his mother persuaded him to stay with his uncle, a priest. The uncle’s good example moved Andrew so much that he turned his life around, returned to his studies and felt the call to a vocation. Andrew became a pastor assigned to Maille, France.
During the French Revolution, he refused to make an oath that renounced the church. Andrew fled to Spain in 1792 for five years and then returned to his parish. Andrew and Saint Jeanne Elizabeth Bichier des Ages, a local holy woman, founded the Daughters of the Cross of Saint Andrew. He died on May 13, 1834 in La Puye, Vienne, France for natural causes.
